Rose Allan Tucker
Commissioner Tucker’s professional career had been primarily in the human services realm. Since the 1970’s she had served as Executive Director or in similar capacities at a number of agencies including the Program for Migrants, the United Services Agency, the Luzerne/Wyoming Counties Drug and Alcohol Abuse Program, the Community Cancer Corporation of Luzerne County, and Maternal and Family Health Services.
Commissioner Tucker had devoted much or her free time to assisting entities which help those in our community who are in crisis or in need. She was involved with the League of Women Voters, was a Board member of the Luzerne County Board of Assistance, the Foundation for Aging, and was a Regional Board Member of Volunteers for America. She had served as President of the Board of Directors of the Volunteers of America, President of the Spark of Life Cancer Project, as a board member of the Family Service Association, Chair of the Luzerne County AIDS Awareness Committee, and as a board member of Hospice St. John, the Luzerne/Wyoming County Drug and Alcohol Program, the Luzerne County Commission on Women, the Economic Development Council, the Kirby Center for the Performing Arts, the Ethics Institute, Leadership Wilkes-Barre and the Luzerne Foundation Advisory Board. Commissioner Tucker was a Trustee of the Luzerne County Community College. She had also served as a member of the National Arab American Leadership Executive Committee.
Commissioner Tucker was the recipient of numerous honors and awards including: Who’s Who in the East (1981), Distinguished Women of the World (1982-1995), Community Woman of the Year (1992), Volunteers of America Woman of the Year, Women’s Commission Woman of the Year, Penns Woods Girl Scout Council Woman of Distinction, Arab American Woman of the Year (1993), Rotary’s Paul Harris Award, the Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber Community Service Award, the Luzerne County Community College Public Service Award, and the Statewide March of Dimes Community Service Award.
